Concurrent Object-Oriented Languages
For uniprocessor systems, the object-oriented approach to programming has proven to be effective in obtaining highly maintainable and reusable software. Object-oriented programming languages, with its inherent conceptual elegance, has also allowed a high degree of programmability in the development of complex systems. As we move towards addressing issues for parallel environments, programmabili...
متن کاملComponent-Oriented Programming in Object-Oriented Languages
Current approaches to component-oriented programming are based on traditional object-oriented languages and concepts. However, most existing object-oriented languages fail to address subtle interface compatibility issues that become paramount in a component-based setting. We explore both syntactic and semantic interface incompatibilities and discuss why they are difficult to handle. We argue th...
متن کاملMaking Safer Object-oriented Languages
In this short paper I sketch out a problem, which is rarely recognized by designers of programing languages. Null values are a source of many problems and run-time errors as well as some incoherences in language and data model design. I propose a nice and simple solution altering the semantics of variables declarations and give some additional information to the compiler and verifier.

متن کاملWishes for object-oriented languages
For a long time, I have liked to compare the parameter-passing modes of Algol 60 (some of you are probably old enough to remember) with speakers at scientific conferences. Namely, call by value vs. call by name in Algol, and authors of regular papers vs. invited speakers at conferences. This time I am lucky enough to be in the latter category; I also used to say that these are sometimes people ...
